Card reading 2006

The Whale again in the West, the Record Keeper, a familiar, a reminder of her free pass to the sonic library. She tries to blame her overdue fines on the traffic, mentions shipping lanes, but it doesn't wash.

In the South, The Elk, a caribou furnace of stamina. She feels her velvet vascular skin palmate, hardening...glad she can still outrun a mountain cat. Was it not a reindeer that sacrificed flesh on the ice, so she could eat?

East, The Mouse, inverted - scrutinises, only her navel. She was never very good at filing etcetera. As her heavy lashes filter, drifting, it is no surprise that she has forgotten what lies ahead in the North.

Her card of the North has flown. A turquoise eye falls dark asleep and in hazel dreams of lowlights, in fur or sleek-skin skimming touches along the coral river, as she runs, she'll search her out.

In velveteen dreams, decisions are easy, she says yes and no and yes again, wakes on the sofa, a feather on the pillow, the cards spread out in front of her, and there you are:
